Grizzlies Dump Salary, Keep Gay

January 22, 2013

League offices just announced the Memphis Grizzlies have traded Marreese Speights, Josh Selby, Wayne Ellington and a second round pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers for forward Jon Leuer.

This means the Memphis Grizzlies will be under the luxury tax and are able to keep both Zach Randolph and Rudy Gay. Losing Mareese Speights hurts them a little, because he was a solid bench player. Wayne Ellington’s contract expires after this year. The Grizzlies are looking to sign two additional players to fill out their roster.

The Memphis Grizzlies look set to make a deep run in this year’s playoffs with Rudy Gay.

I think I understand why they had to do this, but still I’m curious who will replace them in the roster..
Also with Pondexter out with an injury, the bench is suddenly very thin, which they will need if they want to make a deep run in this year’s playoffs.

  2. Good point!

They can’t afford another injury now. I’m curious as well. Maybe there’s a future for D.West here?
